About Us

Welcome to Leaf Africa!

Leaf Mother and Childcare Consultancy, it is an NGO with its own lactation and baby clinic based in the Netherlands as well.

Leaf is here to support parents as well as health facilities with a main focus on lactation. Breastfeeding is supposed to be a natural process and often it will go without any issue.

But there are also many reasons why this process might be disrupted and that’s where Leaf comes in, identifying breastfeeding challenges and finding a customized solution for each baby and mother. Leaf is working under the lead of IBCLC lactation consultants and part of our mission is also to build capacity for our profession in Ghana and across borders in SubSaharan Africa.

Our Vision

At Leaf Mother and Childcare, we are dedicated to providing access to quality care from all segments of society for healthy lives and well-being.

Our Mission

Combat disease and malnutrition by providing low cost interventions, education and materials to improve the health system for quality care for maternal, newborn and childhealth.

Our Values

Respect, Integrity, commitment, and excellency are the pillar of our values. We value everyone involved in our organization in one way or another and are committed to all our projects.

Our Plans

We want to inform the public about low-cost but very profitable solutions to improve care for mother and child. Breastfeeding is key in this, it can save up to the lives of 823.000 children every year globally (Victora et al 2016). We are dedicated to bringing our contributions towards that with our programs:

    • Breastfeeding kits program
    • Virtual clinic
    • Fathers engagement program
    • Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)
    • Developmental Care in the NICU

Why Exclusive Breastfeeding?

“Exclusive breastfeeding” is defined as no other food or drink, not even water, except breast milk (including milk expressed or from a wet nurse) for 6 months of life, but allows the infant to receive ORS, drops and syrups (vitamins, minerals and medicines).

Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers. As a global public health recommendation, infants should be exclusively breastfed1 for the first six months of life to achieve optimal growth, development and health.

Thereafter, to meet their evolving nutritional requirements, infants should receive nutritionally adequate and safe complementary foods while breastfeeding continues for up to two years of age or beyond. – World Health Organization, Global strategy on infant and young child feeding, May 2001.

Why choose us?

We are proud to have the two international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) registered in Ghana working with us. Under her leadership, we aim to become an easily accessible platform to parents and health professionals to identify breastfeeding challenges and find a customized solution for each baby and each mother to make breastfeeding successful for a healthy start.

We will be delighted to have you join our community to share knowledge and experiences to support each other to make breastfeeding possible for every mother!

Our History

In 2015 the You & Ghana Foundation – connect to care was set up in the Netherlands to offer several programs addressed to mothers and childcare coming from the preventive angle. They are working with several local partners and many foreign students and young professionals came to join to roll out these programs together with their local colleagues.

Started in 2019 whilst being a participant of the UNICEF Startup Lab Ghana under the You & Ghana Foundation the ideas for Leaf Africa started to grow and along the line, the decision was made to continue as an NGO in Ghana on its own. It will be under the wings of the Leaf Mother and Childcare Consultancy which is registered as an international business with its own lactation and baby clinic based in the Netherlands as well.
